South African Routes


A province of wide horizons and blue skies, farmland, mountains, goldfields, and widely dispersed towns, lies in the heart of South Africa. Mining, particularly gold, is the biggest employer, followed by manufacturing. The Free State also produces high-quality diamonds from its kimberlite pipes and fissures, and the country’s largest deposit of bentonite is found in the Koppies district.

KwaZulu-Natal is the only province with a monarchy specifically provided for in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996. It is one of the country’s most popular holiday destinations and the hub of all sea freight transportation stretching from Port Edward in the south, and northwards to the Mozambique boundary.


South Africa’s northernmost province, borders Botswana, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, making it the ideal entrance to Africa. Named after the Limpopo River that flows along its northern border, the province is rich in wildlife, spectacular scenery, and a wealth of historical and cultural treasures. Refers to the place where the sun rises. Due to the province’s spectacular scenic beauty and abundance of wildlife, it is one of South Africa’s major tourist destinations. Mpumalanga falls mainly within the Grassland Biome. The escarpment and the Lowveld form a transitional zone between this grassland area and the Savanna Biome. Large-scale manufacturing occurs especially in the northern Highveld area, particularly chrome-alloy, coal mining (Emalahleni), and steel manufacturing.


It is known as the Platinum Province due to its abundant mineral riches of platinum, chrome, and platinum group metals. It is also home to a strong dimension stone sector, due to the riches of its slate, marble, and granite deposits. The Rustenburg and Brits districts produce 94% of the country’s platinum. In addition to granite, marble, fluorspar, and diamonds, the province also produces a quarter of South Africa’s gold.


Situated on the south-western tip of Africa, the Western Cape with its wide beaches and breath-taking scenery, complemented by a rich variety of cultures, historical landmarks, world-class restaurants, and entertainment, is a world-famous tourist destination.
Sub-Saharan Routes


A culturally rich country that is ruled by a monarchy under King Swati. It is bordered by Mozambique to its northeast and South Africa to its north, west, and south. At no more than 200 kilometers (120 mi) north to south and 130 kilometers (81 mi) east to west, Eswatini is one of the smallest countries in Africa; despite this, its climate and topography are diverse, ranging from a cool and mountainous highveld to a hot and dry lowveld.


Kingdom of Lesotho (Sotho: Naha ea Lesotho), is an enclaved country surrounded entirely by South Africa. It is by far the largest of the world’s three independent states surrounded by the territory of another country. Lesotho boasts vast freshwater resources in the Mokohlong mountains.


Malawi is a landlocked country in South-eastern Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered by Zambia to the west, Tanzania to the north and northeast, and Mozambique to the east, south, and southwest. The economy of Malawi is mainly agriculture-driven.


Mozambique is a country located in South-eastern Africa bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east, Tanzania to the north, Malawi and Zambia to the northwest, Zimbabwe to the west, and Eswatini (Swaziland) and South Africa to the southwest. The sovereign state is separated from the Comoros, Mayotte and Madagascar by the Mozambique Channel to the east. The capital and largest city of Mozambique is Maputo.


Zambia is a landlocked country at the crossroads of Central, Southern, and East Africa. Its neighbours are the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe and Botswana to the south, Namibia to the southwest, and Angola to the west. The economy is driven by agriculture and coal mining.


Zimbabwe is a country in Southern Africa. It is landlocked and is surrounded by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the Southwest, Zambia to the Northwest, and Mozambique to the east and north. Hosts the biggest border post in Sub-Saharan Africa in Beitbridge Border Post that links South Africa with Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, DRC and Kenya. The economy of Zimbabwe is agriculture and mining driven.
